This programme focuses on Islam as a religion and as a civilisation. The language element will train you to read classical Arabic. You can expect to achieve a high level of understanding of the many diverse dimensions of Islam and an ability to read classical and modern texts.

Year 1
Introduction to Islam; Elementary Arabic; Reading and Translation; From the Qur’an to the Islamic Humanities; plus a free-choice module from the wide selection available.

Year 2
Intermediate Arabic; Reading Qur’anic Arabic; Sufism and Islamic Devotional Life; plus four free-choice modules.

Year 3
Dissertation; plus six free-choice modules.
